630/ 17-4 PH Stainless Steel Alloy

630 (17-4 PH) stainless steel alloy is an age-hardening martensitic stainless combining high strength with the corrosion resistance of stainless steel. Hardening is achieved by a short-time, simple low-temperature treatment. Unlike conventional martensitic stainless steels, such as type 410, 630 (17-4 PH) Alloy is quite weldable. The strength, corrosion resistance and simplified fabrication can make 17-4 PH stainless a cost-effective replacement for high strength carbon steels as well as other stainless grades.

630/ 17-4 PH Stainless Steel Alloy Heat Treatment

At the solution treating temperature, 1900°F, the metal is austenitic but undergoes transformation to a low-carbon martensitic structure during cooling to room temperature. This transformation is not complete until the temperature drops to 90°F. Subsequent heating to temperatures of 900-1150°F for one to four hours precipitation strengthens the alloy. This hardening treatment also tempers the martensitic structure, increasing ductility and toughness.

Difference Between 304 and 316L Stainless Steel

 304 and 316L Stainless Steel  Similarities:

Both types 304 and 316 are austenitic stainless steels. This property contributes to their ductility and ability to be easily welded and formed. This also means that these steels are not magnetic. The chromium in stainless steels also adds a certain level of corrosion resistance to the metal. Type 304 stainless steel contains 1'percent chromium, while 316(grade stainless steel contains 1) percent chromium.

304 and 316L Stainless Steel Differences:

Molybdenum can also be added to steel to increase corrosion and pitting resistance. The presence of molybdenum is perhaps the biggest difference bet!een 304 and 316 stainless steels. Type 304 stainless steel contains no traces of molybdenum, while 316 stainless steel contains *.1 percent molybdenum.
King Steel Contact: kingsteelpipe@gmail.com. For our newly steel plates and pipes stock and price, welcome to send inquiry to us.
304 and 316L Stainless Steel Corrosion Resistance
316 stainless steel contains molybdenum, which gives it increased corrosion resistance, more so than the corrosion resistance provided by 304 stainless steel. /n chlorine environments, 316 stainless steel offers a higher resistance to crevice corrosion and pitting than 304 stainless steel.
304 and 316L Stainless Steel Components
The 300 series contains different types of stainless steel- however, all types of stainless steel in the series contain about the same amount of nickel, iron and chromium. 316 stainless steel is simply a lo!(carbon type of 316 stainless steel that contains molybdenum.
304 and 316L Stainless Steel Applications
316 stainless steel is often employed in heavy gauge welding applications because the risk of pitting, cracking and corrosion is reduced. 304 stainless steel is often used in the creation of cookware and in the construction of dairy equipment, such as milling machines.
Type 304 stainless steel is one of the most commonly used grades. Both 304 and 316 stainless steels are used in the food and beverage industry. Silos, cheese vats, fruit tanks and wine tanks are often made out of either 304 or 316 stainless steel. Type 316 stainless steel is often used in marine applications like for boat fittings.

1.4301 Austenitic Stainless Steels

1.4301 austenitic stainless steels have been the primary alloys used for building and construction, consumer products and industrial applications. Their overwhelming popularity is due to several factors:
Commonly available in all sizes and product forms

Highly formable, making very tight crisp bends possible;
Easy to weld and repair;
Widest range of aeshetic finishes; and
Superior impact, blast and seismic performance
Building and Construction Applications:
The most commonly used alloys have been Types 304 and 316 and their low carbon versions Types 304L and 316L. The low carbon versions are only needed when sections 0.125 inches (3.2 mm) thick and greater will be welded.  The molybdenum addition to Types 316/316L makes them more resistant to chloride salts (coastal and deicing) and to pollution related corrosion.
Early architectural projects, built some 50 or more years ago, were constructed in Type 302, which is equivalent to modern Type 304. While Types 304/304L and their predecessor Type 302 were widely used historically for building and construction applications, Type 316/316L and sometimes more corrosion-resistant stainless steel alloys are increasingly being specified for exterior and sheltered applications.
This has occurred because of increasing global use of deicing salts, population concentration in coastal areas, and high pollution levels and rain acidity in developing countries. Sheltered areas are even more corrosive because they accumulate the same environmental contaminants but do not benefit from natural rain-washing. Austenitic stainless steel grade 1.4301 with even greater corrosion resistance are used for industrial and seawater applications.
